The Beckham documentary on Netflix

Love him or loathe him, it's a brilliantly made insight into the life of a superstar. My only complaint is that he didn't play for us.

Zico - I love Stallone, but didn't think much of the doc. I was expecting more about his life/family etc, but most of it was just talking about the Rocky character.

No, I don't love Eurovision. It's bigger than that!

I do also like David Beckham as a travelling England fan.

Despite that, I wasn't going to watch it - the missus had it on, so I had an ear on it. After a while I started paying proper attention - it's an interesting insight. But as I say, it's not exactly cutting or 100% honest, but it's better than you'd think.

Let’s face it whilst most youngsters were out and about getting life experiences of interest, Beckham was in a field perfecting crossing a ball. Great footballer with great drive on the field and off it but a bit of a vacuum for any interest off it. He even settled down early to not be a ‘one of the lads’ character…. from that side of things he’s let blokes down not being caught in great positions with various sorts in the red tops

I can't stand her and all the fakeness around the image so probably won't watch it.

His "performance" on desert island discs made me laugh so I'm guessing this would be similar

Everything they do is to craft their public persona, his selections were hilarious and we're clearly done by his media team to portray him vas some kind of cultural ambassador.

If the doc was done by an independent set up warts and all I'd watch it, but when I saw it was done by his "people" I thought, not for me

Being from London and a Yew-nigh-'id supporter is always unacceptable, and those that are, are always cunts. In my view they have no opinion about football and should be ignored. Same goes for so called Liverpool fans.

Was incredibly one sided. I like the bloke now, but I remember what an arrogant prick he was before the World Cup red card.

I remember being at a match at Upton Park when he put one in that top corner then ran over to celebrate in front of the chicken run cupping his ears and then pointing to his name.

The red card grounded him and he became less of a bell end as a result.

not sure i agree on the Hoddle thing, Ball son. The bloke was an absolute cunt.
He could very easily have got around it by blaming the ref, and saying it was never a red card, because it wasn't. It's what Ferguson would have done.
Instead, he chose to blame the player - because he's a cunt - as if to say to everyone that he was right to leave him out of the first game, and everyone else was wrong for wanting him to be included. Awful bloke and an awful manager.

I still think Hoddle liked the power though and dropping Gazza from the squad proved that. Yes, Gazza was past his best and didn't help himself but as an option from the bench at the very least he was probably a better option than David Batty or Rob Lee!

Agreed. I fucking hate Hoddle for the chance he wasted with England (just look at the subs bench when Owen scores - ridiculous talent) and his incredible arrogance, but you can't fault his response. If he'd said that the sending off didn't cost us, who would he be kidding?

Lots to blame Hoddle for, but that wasn't why the country went mad - it had nothing to do with it. Thought Mummy Beckham looked daft there. Protective as a mum would be, which was sweet, but completely misguided. They surely had more to blame Hoddle for?

While I agree that the shit he got was way OTT, especially in hindsight, his Mum fucked me off with the way she blamed Hoddle.

The facts of the matter are that at that point in time Beckham was a cocky, petulant prick. That petulance hindered England in that match big time.

Instead of blaming the manager who was emotional and had just had his team's chances impacted by said petulance, just fucking own the mistake and admit that he was to blame on this occasion (and recognise that your shit parenting contributed to the brat you had brought up).

To be fair to Beckham he pretty much acknowledged ownership of the fuck up later on in the series.

I thought it was decent. He has always come across as a likeable bloke and clearly has a business head on him because he has been immensely successful with the brand. Thought he got too much stick from 98 as it was a nothing kick and the Referee as well as Simeone were at fault, which Simeone pretty much admitted. That said he fell for it but didn't deserve the shit he got.

Was interesting how he didn't flat out deny the Loos speculation and I must confess I had forgotten how barren trophy wise his Madrid years were. The only thing I thought he was not quite honest about was when he said he never did certain things to annoy Fergie when clearly he did a bit. I mean you clearly knew where you stood with Ferguson so you would know you would piss him off doing certain things. Good on Fergie though for appearing, says a lot about Hoddle that he seemingly refused.

Both Stallone and Swarzenegger have documentaries on Netflix and both worth a watch.
